About Sustainabler

Behind Sustainabler – Johanna Flood & Partners

Behind Sustainabler you find me, Johanna Flood and the various partners I work with. I have a long and broad global experience in sustainability, especially in strategy, sustainability reporting, roadmaps, ISO standards, ratings like EcoVadis, and carbon accounting.

Two decades of
sustainability and communications

For a decade, I have worked with sustainability and for one decade with communications. I have worked with several industries, but my main focus is on infrastructure. I have almost 8 years of experience in the energy sector with ABB and Hitachi Energy.

Global ESG expertise

Before starting Sustainabler, I worked as global Head of Environment in Hitachi Energy where I led the work to build up the environmental sustainability practices, targets, compliance, and reporting. I also have a background in ABB as a Global Sustainability specialist in HVDC working with ISO standards and LCAs.

Data center sustainability expert

Since 2023, I have mainly worked in the data center industry having supported EcoDataCenter to go from from no sustainability strategy to a sustainability strategy, an EcoVadis Platinum medal, and GRI-aligned third-party reviewed reporting. I have also supported the Nordic data center company atNorth

An author with a background in journalism

My early career was spent as a journalist at Falu kuriren and Sveriges Radio, which has made me very sensitive to greenwashing. I also have a background in sustainability and crisis communications at Länsstyrelsen Dalarna. I have also written two books, Konsumindre and Ina and the Polar Bear Club. Together with Anna Sanneviken, I host the podcast for Medveten Konsumtion.

ISEP memberships and board roles

I am a full ISEP member (formerly IEMA), and I am also one of the people in the ISEP Europe committee spreading the network in Europe. I am also the chair of the boards of Falun Borlänge Säter Figure skating clubs. I am also on the board for Medveten Konsumtion (Consumption Awareness).

Konsumindre – Johanna Flood’s book about living more with lagom

Konsumindre means “to consume less” in Swedish. It’s a practical and philosophical guide to living more with lagom:  sufficiency, balance, and intention. Through a mix of research, interviews, personal reflections, and everyday psychology, the book explores why we consume, what we hope to feel when we shop, and how we can shift toward choices that create real well‑being rather than temporary relief.

The book has received excellent reviews from the Swedish library association Bibliotekstjänst (BTJ 5/5) and from readers, who describe it as relatable, grounding, and eye‑opening. Konsumindre will be translated into English.

Ina & the Polar Bear Club

Like so many others, Ina, almost 8, feels overwhelmed by melting ice and the decline of polar bears — and decides to act. Her journey is shaped by three steps:

  1. having a vision,

  2. teaming up with others, and

  3. changing what she can influence.

This is the heart of Ina & the Polar Bear Club — a story about climate emotions, empowerment, and taking meaningful action. The book will be released in Sweden in Spring 2026 and later translated into English.

Masters' thesis: Hindering and supporting factors towards net-zero

Never before have more companies set net‑zero targets — and never before have global CO₂ emissions been higher. This raises a critical question: what is stopping organizations from acting, and which factors can actually help them move toward net‑zero in a meaningful and measurable way?

In this article (and the full thesis), you’ll learn about the key barriers that hold companies back as well as the supporting factors that enable real progress toward net‑zero.
